Darshana Banik is an Indian model and actress. Banik works for the Bengali and Telugu film industry. She started her career as a model and brand ambassador for different brands like Colors, Vodafone, and Boroline. Darshana Banik was born in West Bengal, India. She completed her undergraduate degree from East Calcutta Girls College and postgraduate degree from Rabindra Bharati University. She started modeling when she was a student. She never wanted to be a model. Darshana wanted to do MPhil and become a teacher. Her friends filled a form on her behalf for a beauty contest organized by PC Chandra Jewellers. She got selected and then there was too much intervention from the media. People used to visit her daily. There were public events and huge photos used to appear in the newspapers. She used to be a very shy and introverted person and did not enjoy the attention at all. But now she is an actress and has a name for herself.
In a few months, she started getting offers for television series. She got her first film offer in 2013, but she declined it. Several brands from Mumbai, including Pond’s, had approached her. She appeared in the Dadagiri Season 5 promo in 2014 and also became the ambassador of Colors Bangla. She realized that those works were much more challenging than posing for stills.
Once she met Kamalda [Kamaleshwar Mukherjee] in 2014 and then she got selected for a film which got shelved. After that she did Mukhomukhi. She met Argha Deepda through Facebook. He approached her with the script of Jojo, She liked the storyline a lot and that’s how the film happened.
Darshana Banik Tollywood:
She played the lead female character of Paruchuri Murali’s Atagallu film, alongside Nara Rohit and Jagapathi Babu. She also worked in Bangarraju, a 2022 Indian Telugu-language supernatural drama film directed by Kalyan Krishna Kurasala who co-wrote the film with Satyanand. Produced by Annapurna Studios and Zee Studios, Bangarraju serves as a sequel to the 2016 film Soggade Chinni Nayana. Her character in the movie was Apsara and she has definitely filled the role with her beauty. Banik also had to shed a few kilos to play the character. She is currently working in Tamil film Yaarakkum Anjael, besides her Bengali projects Antaratma and Operation Sunderbans.
According to the model-turned-actress, the opportunity to work with Nagarjuna has been an honour for her. “I was excited when I heard it was for Nag Sir’s film because he is someone I look up to,” said Banik in one of her interviews with Hyderabad Media.
